Introduction
An earthquake is a natural disaster that affects people's lives throughout the world every year.
Challenge
You have just been hired as the principal of Central Junior High in Los Angeles, California. As the principal, you are required to have a safety plan for all of the major natural disasters. Living in California, you know and understand that earthquakes are a part of life there. The final plan you have to make is an earthquake safety plan. It is your responsibility to educate the teachers and students at your school. In order to be able to do this, you must be very knowledgeable about what an earthquake is, when earthquakes are likely to occur, the strength and severity of an earthquake, and ways to be safe when an earthquake happens. The best way to get the information out to your school is to pass out a flyer at the next school assembly and hang them up throughout the school.
The following activities will guide you in researching an earthquake. Central Junior High is counting on you to keep them safe. Good luck!
